She watches a little girl with leukemia dance as an angel.  Her dancer in residence at Shands Hospital, University of Florida Medical center holds the girl and cries softly.  It is so beautiful.

Years ago while recovering from a severe depression Mary painted her well.  The experience of healing herself with art was so profound to her, that she knew her life was changed forever and that she would devote herself to helping others be able to heal with creativity.

The woman is Mary Rockwood Lane, R.N.,  Ph.D. a painter, nurse, program director, author and mother. After she healed herself with art, she had a powerful vision.  She knew she wanted to bring art into the hospital to help people heal and she knew she had to do it herself.  With her best friend, the painter who invited her to paint, she came into the hospital and founded an artist in residence program which placed artists with children on the bone marrow transplant unit.  This vision grew to the richest program in art and healing in the world, a program that has changed the face of healthcare and the way children are cared for in the hospital nationwide.  This seven year old program has had over 500 artists in 15 units working with thousands of people.  Featured on NBC specials, and cable television, this beautiful program now has a painter in residence, a storyteller in residence, a dancer in residence, and a musician in residence.  The program is being replicated as a model all over the state of Florida and soon will help patients in many other hospitals.

Mary is an empowered woman who sees her own vision of the future and lets nothing stand in her way. From her vision, and empowering others, she is changing the face of healthcare by bringing dancers, artists musicians and storytellers into a huge hospital. Her vision is so beautiful that people’s passion becomes aroused and they catch fire and their lives are changed forever.  They  find that they know who they are and can act with certainty and power from their own hearts.  That is Mary’s teaching, her personal power and ability to manifest her dream are exceptional.

After she set up her program and nurtured it and helped it grow by sending her passion and enthusiasm to artists and physicians, she started her life as an author.  She teamed up with best selling author, physician and art and healing specialist Michael Samuels, M.D. to write a ground breaking book Creative Healing, How anyone can use art, written, music, and dance to heal body, mind, spirit.  This book was read by the wife of Jeb Bush governor of Florida who came to visit Mary’s program.  She was so moved by its beauty that she invited Mary to come up and speak to the Governor’s mansion and help spread her wonderful vision.

Mary is a contemporary visionary woman.  She goes inward into her feminine mystical center and brings her visions outward to share with others in her community and manifest change.  In that was she is modern shamaness, a priestess healer.  People who worked with and empower tell her that “ when I look at you I can see the vision inside me, and I can make it happen.

Mary is healer, a nurturer a caregiver.  A woman came to her with fibroids who was to get a hysterectomy.  She told Mary “Something large is happening to me.   I want to do something with you.  I don’t know anyone like you Mary, I don’t know anyone I can talk to about this.  Mary said, “What I have to offer you is a ceremony, we can  make art together to empower you as woman, to honor the woman within you.  I will teach you to open up, to let go, to make sculpture to help you heal.”

Mary sees deeply into her own visionary space and can see out of ht eyes of the animals and listen to their voices.  With Michael Samuels, M.D., the Path of the Feather shares her vision of how each person can take their visions and manifest them in the outer world.  She has shared her visions with Michael and now with her readers to heal the earth.  As a visionary woman she hears the voice of the living earth, and though all her actions manifests that vision to heal her family, her patients, and the earth.

As Mary created her program she did the research for her Ph.D. in nursing at University of Florida. She studied how art healed her patients and found to her surprise that spirit healed them.  She has taken this work and helped her patients see angels, spirit animals, and visions of God.  This work with transcendence is considered the most creative work in spiritual healing, a true framework for how patients will heal in the next century.  This work makes Mary a leader in body, mind, spirit medicine and a more powerful visionary healer.
